The Sutton FAIRTRADE Community group meets monthly- 6 weekly at the Tariro Cafe in the Salvation Army building in Benhill Avenue, Sutton. The date of the next meeting is Wednesday 16th May. Answers to Fairtrade Quiz

1b , 2c, 3a, (Mali is one of the 4 countries in west Africa ( the others are Benin, Burkino Faso and Chad )  who are highly dependent on cotton. Cotton in the US, EU and India and China is heavily subsidized (one farm in Arkansas received over 24million in subsidies between 1995 and 2009 for example) meaning that farmers in west Africa lose out.) 4c , 5 (Bags , Home ware, Work wear , T- shirts , School wear , men’s trousers, men’s shirts and T -shirts , women’s jeans , shirts, T- shirts , nightwear , underwear , cotton wool , cotton buds) 6b, 7b, 8b, 9 All of them.

N.B The buying arrangements for big stores are often centrally organised and the trying out of new products is often only limited to the bigger stores. If you would like to encourage more stores to try out stocking FAIRTRADE cotton products please sign out interest sheet Trade rules need to be changed to make the cotton market fair and the UK government are campaigning for this within the EU. You can help by ;
-          Buying FAIRTRADE cotton and asking your friends and family to do so too
-          Asking in stores if they would consider stocking cotton goods that are FAIRTRADE if they don’t already
